July to December 2012
The past six months have seen some firsts for Chipembele... our first conservation music festival (with top national musicians), our first educational long distance excursion with a group of students and a special trip to Lusaka for 2 of our students who won a national art award. These types of activities involving travel, meeting with international people and general exposure to the world outside of South Luangwa help to stretch all of our minds. But for our conservation students they also help prepare them to engage well in a world that is becoming increasingly global. In the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes, ‘A mind once stretched never regains its original dimensions’. There is lots to catch up on...Enjoy!

April to June 2012
We are now in the dry ‘winter’ months, the peak tourist season, the 2nd term of the school year and the busiest time of year for Chipembele! There have been visitors galore to the projects, many of whom have helped out in practical ways, been financially or materially supportive, or were just downright interesting and inspirational. The conservation education programme has in particular benefitted from unexpected donations from a wide range of people and this has allowed innovative programmes to be introduced for the students. Read about some of what’s been happening in the pages below. Enjoy the read!

January to March 2012
The conservation education programme is off to a flying start this year; in addition all sorts of exciting programmes are planned for the year ahead. There have been some key staff additions and role changes and we now have a great team working in the Chipembele Offices in the grounds of Mfuwe Secondary School. We have also been successful in securing funding from new sources, which has allowed the buzz of ideas we have had for some time to at last become reality. As always it is our supporters who make things possible and this quarter we have had some amazingly creative and energetic visitors stay with us. Many of our supporters become close friends, which is one of the joys of this type of work. We often meet very special and motivated people, and these are usually the type of people who make things happen. You’ll meet some of them in the January to April 2012 Newsletter.
