We are so appreciative of the kind and generous efforts of Chipembele supporter Catherine Haylock and her family for sponsoring our end of year party for fifty Chipembele sponsored pupils. The head teacher of Mfuwe Basic School kindly allocated one of the classtooms for our use and we were pleased the Head was able to attend for part of the party. Much fun was had by all.
We had dance competitions! DJ Duet - Extra Tall and his friend did a great job with the music - the young people really got into the spirit of the dance. We even had break dancing - complete with backspins. The competition was for junior girls and junior boys, then senior girls and senior boys. There was 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in all categories and competition was friendly but fierce and fun!
After the dance competition we all tucked into the party fare - lots of sausages, potato crisps, rolls, biscuits and even two soft drinks each.
This year, for the first time we had a Lucky Dip instead of handing our small gift packs. Each of the young people were able to visit the Lucky Dip barrells, which were filled with wood shavings and choose their own suprise gifts hidden inside.
At the end everyone was able to take home a party pack of food and an orange - oranges don't grow in this area, so for some of the pupils, this was their first ever taste. A rare treat. Everyone seemed to have a lovely time and we ended the year on a high note.
Thank you once more to Catherine Haylock and family from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, not only for your generosity in sponsoring the party and donating gifts - but also for packaging up and sending Christmas decorations all the way from Australia.
