Wildlife Rescue - Blossom Bushbuck

 Blossum bushbuck

Blossom was brought to us as a week old baby in late August. She had been attacked by a baboon and had a serious leg injury. She was rescued by local people as there was no sign of the mother and she was taken to South Luangwa Conservation Society. As it was a natural incident she was taken back to where she was found in the hope that her mother would find her again but the attempt failed and she was brought to Chipembele.

The extent of her injury was then seen - it was very serious. She had a huge hole in her thigh with a lot of flesh missing and she was unable to walk. However after taking a lot of veterinary advice we treated the wound until she was weaned and the leg had fully healed. In December she was rehabilitated to the wild and although she still stays in the environs of the house she is now living a completely free and wild life. We see her occasionally with Sprite (who we reared from an orphan in 2002) and one of Sprite's daughters. It is a joyful scene!
